Corine Lemieux

en cours de route

In the en cours de route series, which she began in 2001 as a visual diary, Corine Lemieux uses photography as a tool for the subtle yet uncompromising observation of her states of mind: “Day by day, I accumulate a series of traces as a way of giving back the part of myself that belongs to everyone.” For Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, Lemieux presents the most recent images from this series (2009-2011). Often using a macro lens, a flash, and a very tight framing of the beings and things around her, she metaphorizes in a new way her desire to see honestly what is and to understand the fabric of our relationships.

Born in 1973 in Montreal, Corine Lemieux lives and works in Montreal. The notions of transformation, interaction, and exchange are fundamental aspects of her photographic and sculptural installations. Lemieux has had solo exhibitions in a number of artist-run centres in Quebec (Centre des arts actuels SKOL, 1998; Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK, 1999; L’Œil de Poisson, 1999; L’espace virtuel, 2001; Optica, 2003) and at Gallery 101 in Ottawa (2002) and Joyce Yahouda Gallery in Montreal (2006 and 2010), which represents her. She has also participated in group shows such as Americas Remixed (Milan, 2002) and in events centred on the idea of collaboration; she was a major contributor to Massimo Guerrera’s participatory work Darboral, and she, Guerrera, and the artist Sylvie Cotton comprised the collective VIA from 2004 to 2009.
